Lincoln is located in Alcona County approximately 8 miles west of Harrisville just north of M-72 . Like many other towns in the region, Lincoln began as a lumbering settlement in the 1880s when the Detroit, Bay City and Alpena Railroad came through. Originally called West Harrisville, it was renamed Lincoln, (probably after President Abraham Lincoln), in 1899. It incorporated as a village in 1907.

Lincoln today is still related to the lumber industry, with a wood-burning generator helping to supply power to the area. Located on both Lincoln and Brownlee Lakes, as well as surrounded by several others, this town also is benefited by tourism. It is organized to meet the future and on the grow with many small businesses.
