Leelanau Township is located at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula in Leelanau County. It contains the small, scenic community of Omena situated on Omena Bay, a sublet of Grand Traverse Bay, and the village of Northport. Its main feature, however, is undoubtedly the Grand Traverse Light House at the tip of the peninsula. Built in 1858, and currently a seasonal museum, this must-see light marked way for freighters to the Manitou Passage on Lake Michigan. Other attractions include the unique fieldstone airport structure and State Park on Cat Head Bay, just south of the light.
