Suttons Bay is located in the township of the same name on Grand Traverse Bay on the east side of the Leelanau Peninsula. It was founded by Harry C. Sutton in 1854. First called Suttonsburg and later renamed Pleasant City, it was eventually named Suttons Bay in 1861. Suttons Bay today has grown to become an adjunct community to Traverse City in addition to its progressive role in tourism. It is known world-wide for hosting the Classic Boat Show each June, where the best of the best in antique, wooden small boats can be seen. It also presents its annual Jazz Fest the last weekend in July. But Suttons Bay can also be appreciated any time of the year, with its many unique shops and restaurants along main street, not to mention the marina, the Bay and the scenery!
