Alfred Pagett opened the first store here in 1865 and the settlement became know as Pagett's Corners. Mr. Pagett renamed it Ubley after his native town in England, but the depot sign misspelled it
Ubly, and it has so remained. Ubly is located in the southern portion of Huron
County. The Ubly Dragway, an International Hot Rod Association Member, has open car races each Sunday from the end of May through September. Just a few miles south of Ubly in Sanilac County is theThe Petroglyph Park and Nature Trail which is open during the summer months. The petroglyphs on the main sandstone outcrop are around 600-800 years old and were probably made be Native Americans from the Woodland Period
